Core Learning Areas
Students at East Kenwick Primary School all participate in the eight learning areas, as specified by the Australian Curriculum. These learning areas include:
+ English
+ Mathematics
+ Science
+ Humanities and Social Sciences
+ The Arts – (Music, Dance, Drama, Media Arts & Visual Arts)
+ Health and Physical Education
+ Technologies – (Design and Technologies & Digital Technologies)
+ Languages – Noongar/Mandarin
At East Kenwick Primary, we are implementing whole-school approaches to teaching and learning to ensure seamless progression through the years students are at our school (K-6). Central to the whole-school approach is our use of Explicit Instruction as the most common pedagogy across the school, using WALT (We Are Learning To) and WILF (What I’m Looking For).
Explicit instruction is systematic, direct, engaging, and success oriented—and has been shown to promote achievement for all students. It is skill based, but students are active participants in the learning process. The teacher constantly monitors understanding to make sure students are deriving meaning from instruction.
Specialist teachers are employed in the areas of:
+ The Arts
+ Science
+ Physical Education
